Bio

Professor Irina Smirnova is a paediatric ophthalmologist, candidate of Medical Sciences, teacher, director of the Siberian Ophthalmological Center “Glazka”, and head of the Siberian Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists. 

With 40 years experience, Irena specialises in progressive myopia in children. Irena is the author of a landmark epidemiological study on the prevalence of refractive disorders in 28,700 schoolchildren of Novosibirsk, and is the developer of the classification of clinical forms and complex treatment of paediatric myopia.

Irena is based in Novosibirsk, Russia, and has a passion for literature, authoring popular scientific publications on children’s vision, literary essays, and short stories, including fairy tales for children and parents.
