Sydney, Australia, – The International Myopia Institute (IMI) is pleased to announce the release of recorded white paper interviews.
Myopia is one of the greatest public health eye issues of the 21st century, with 50% of the world’s population predicted to be affected by 2050. Research on the topic is rapidly evolving which makes it a challenge for clinicians and researchers to keep abreast of the latest development. The IMI white papers have become an important source of reviews of relevant research and evidence-based clinical management recommendations. The widely cited series of IMI White Papers were published in IOVS journal in 2019 and 2021 and a new series is set to be released in 2023. Video recorded interviews of key findings with each of the lead authors from the white paper series is now available for viewing.
“It can be difficult for busy practitioners to keep pace with the growing body of evidence around myopia development and management. IMI is pleased to have had sponsorship support to make this engaging resource available. Each interview is less than 5 minutes long and provides a quick snapshot of key evidence around all the topics that the taskforce chairs have carefully synthesised from the growing body of available evidence for our 3 series of white papers since 2019” said IMI program Director Dr Nina Tahhan.
“There remains much to do in raising myopia awareness and encouraging the practice of evidence-based myopia management among eye care practitioners. The eye care profession plays a dominant role to educate the public and make them aware of the impact of this progressive eye disease and the available management approaches. Early prevention and treatment are the keys to manage this ocular condition,” added IMI Chair, Professor Serge Resnikoff. “We look forward to work with our sponsors in sharing the knowledge and latest findings in the myopia field globally.”
The IMI white papers volume one and two, together with the interviews and the latest clinical summaries in up to thirteen international languages can be accessed at myopiainstitute.org/imi-taskforce-interviews. The video recordings were funded by an education grant from HOYA.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL MYOPIA INSTITUTE
The International Myopia Institute was formed following the WHO-BHVI meeting on myopia and high myopia in 2015, due to the need to address the increasing levels of myopia and high myopia worldwide that can lead to potentially sight threatening complications for an individual, and the massive global burden associated with lost productivity.
The IMI is a global group of experts who have come together to discuss, debate and make available the latest evidence-based recommendations in classifications, patient management, and research, in the form of the IMI white papers.
Our mission is to advance research, patient management and education in myopia to prevent future vision impairment and blindness associated with increasing myopia. We aim to do this by bringing together, scientists, clinicians, policy makers, government and educators into the field of myopia to stimulate collaboration and sharing of knowledge.
Founded by Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
Supported by Zeiss, EssilorLuxottica, CooperVision, Oculus, Thea, Alcon and HOYA.
