IMI at the Siberian Myopia Conference

December 1, 2021

The Siberian Myopia Conference held on 25th Oct attracted over 100 leading paediatric ophthalmologists attending in person and over 1000 viewers online. This inaugural event marked a great beginning of raising myopia management awareness in Russia.

Our Russian ambassador Dr Irina Smirnova, Director of Ophthalmological Centres of Eye, Head of the Siberian Association of Paediatric Ophthalmologists, also the organiser of the conference, said “Our conference was a great success, doctors from 24 cities of Russia registered for the conference. One of the conclusions of the conference was that we should switch to modern myopia control methods, leaving single-focal correction in the past.”

Professor Serge Resnikoff, IMI Chair, said “It was a great honour to do the opening address for the first Siberian Myopia Conference. I want to congratulate professor Smirnova and her team for all the hard work that was put in to make this event such a success and create an impact on myopia management in Russia.”

IMI is looking forward to continuing to support our ambassadors to make evidence-based myopia management knowledge available and make an impact on myopia management in their regions.
